Hamon: Heat Treat

Heat Treating is used to harden areas to hold an edge, remove stress, toughen the steel and to leave some areas softened.

We use clay covering to impart these characteristics, and then polishing to make these areas visible.

The results are destinctive Hamons, visible proof of the characteristics in the grain of the steel.
